BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The NFL has decided to move the Bills' home game against the New York Jets to Monday night in Detroit after a severe winter storm pounded western New York.

More than 5 feet of snow have fallen in the Buffalo area since Monday, and another 1 to 3 feet were projected to fall by Friday. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said it would be impractical for the game to be played on schedule.

The storm forced the Bills to cancel their past two days of practice. The team intends to travel to Detroit on Friday and practice at the Detroit Lions' facility.

The Lions are at New England on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Mid-American Conference has announced the cancellation of Friday's game between Buffalo and visiting Kent State.

And the NHL has postponed the Sabres' home game against the New York Rangers on Friday night. No makeup date has been announced.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The NFL Players Association told the federal judge hearing a lawsuit against the league that the collective bargaining agreement did not provide a way for the union to press claims by former players that NFL teams routinely mishandled painkillers. The filing by the NFLPA came in response to questions raised by U.S. District Judge William Alsup, who said he wanted to determine the union's position in the case before considering the NFL's motion to dismiss.

The lawsuit was filed in May in the northern district of California and now includes more than 1,300 former players. Nine players have been named as plaintiffs, including Hall of Fame defensive end Richard Dent.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots have re-signed running back LeGarrette Blount (bluhnt), two days after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Blount spent last season with the Patriots before signing a two-year contract with the Steelers. Pittsburgh cut him on Tuesday the day after he jogged toward the tunnel with time on the clock as Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur) lined up for the final snap in a 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans.
