UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks are off to the best start in franchise history. With a 2-1 overtime win over Detroit, the 'Hawks upped their record to 6-0. Nick Leddy scored 2:45 into OT to secure the win. After taking a cross-ice pass from Viktor Stalberg, Leddy fired from the left circle and beat Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard with a shot that slipped just under his glove. Detroit's Johan Franzen connected early in the third to tie the game at 1 and set up overtime.

The Blackhawks previous best start to a season was 5-0 in 1971-72.

— After picking up their first point with an overtime loss in their previous outing, the Capitals beat the visiting Buffalo Sabres 3-2 for their first win of the NHL season. The Caps were the last winless team in the NHL. Former two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin (oh-VECH'-kin) scored his first goal of the season during a third-period power play, helping Washington improve to 1-3-1. The Capitals had opened with four consecutive losses for the first time since the 1993-94 season.

— Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin (ehv-GEH'-nee MAHL'-kihn) and James Neal scored in the shootout to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators. Neal also scored in regulation to help the Penguins snap a two-game skid. Colin Greening scored a second-period goal for the Senators, and Jason Spezza (SPET'-suh) and Kyle Turris beat Marc-Andre Fleury (marhk-AHN'-dray FLOOR'-ee) in the shootout. But Milan Michalek (MEE'-lahn muh-KAHL'-ihk) was stopped with Ottawa's first attempt.

— Tampa Bay had a lopsided 5-1 win over visiting Philadelphia. Teddy Purcell (PUR'-sehl) had a goal and two assists for the Lightning and Martin St. Louis (mahr-TAN' san loo-EE') contributed four assists. The lone goal for the Flyers came from Sean Couturier (koo-TOOR'-ee-ay).

— Andrei Markov scored 4:22 into overtime on a power play as Montreal recovered from blowing a two-goal lead to defeat New Jersey 4-3. Markov was at the edge of the crease and lifted the rebound of a shot by Rene Bourque's (ruh-NAY' BOHRK) off the end boards into an open side for his fourth goal. The Canadiens took a 3-1 lead early in the third period, but David Clarkson scored on a power play and Dainius Zubrus (DYN'-uhs ZOO'-bruhs) tied the game at 13:02.

— Evander Kane scored 1:59 into overtime to give Winnipeg a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the New York Islanders. Kane, who also had an assist, tapped the puck in past goalie Evgeni Nabokov (ehv-GEH'-nee nah-BAH'-kahv) after a rebound from a long Olli Jokinen (OH'-lee YOH'-kih-nehn) shot.

— San Jose remained undefeated with a 4-1 win over Vancouver. Joe Pavelski had two goals for the Sharks while Patrick Marleau scored once. The Sharks are unbeaten in five games.

— Vladimir Sobotka (vlah-DIH'-meer soh-BAHT'-kah) scored from close range at 2:16 of overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 victory over Minnesota. St. Louis is 5-1, its best start since winning seven of its first eight in 1997-98. Coming off a 4-3 victory in Dallas on Saturday night, the Blues improved to 3-0 at home.
