University of Wyoming Cowgirl outside hitter Mikaela Ryshytylo has been selected to represent the province of Manitoba in the upcoming Canada games and the USAV HP Championships.

She will be a part of the Under 20 volleyball team that was chosen for Team Manitoba. The team will first compete at the USA High Performance Championships, July 23-27, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Canada Games will take place from August 2-17 in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

A native of Selkirk, Manitoba, Ryshytylo sat out during the 2012 and will enter this season as a red-shirt freshman. During her high school career, she was a three-time member of the Under 16 provincial team that won the gold medal in 2008 and the silver in 2010. Ryshytylo was also ranked among the Top 10 players in the Manitoba.

It was February 1967 in Quebec City that the history of the Canada Games began. With its motto “Unity through Sport,” the first Canada Winter Games paved the way for what is now the biggest multi-sport competition for young Canadian athletes. Beyond being a unique sporting event, the Games promote healthy living among young people and leave behind an important infrastructure, sports and social legacy for the host region. To host the Games means highlighting our culture and our diversity, at the same time encouraging the development of our communities.

Since 1967, the Canada Games have played a central role in the promotion of sports and physical activity in the provinces and territories. Presented every two years (alternating between Winter and Summer Games), in a different province or territory, the Games have united, since their start, over 100,000 athletes.

In 2013, 4,200 athletes will come to compete for honors in 20 disciplines on 20 different sites. During the 16 days of competition, pleasure, perseverance, team spirit, sweat, surpassing limits, entertainment, deception and success will all be on the menu.
