The Casper Ghosts avoided the sweep and beat the Idaho Falls Chukars 7-5 Thursday night in Pioneer League action. The Ghosts had lost the first two games after winning 11 of their last 12 games.

The Ghosts (9-3) are in Orem tonight to play the Owlz (8-4) at 7:05pm on AM 1400 ESPN. Casper and Orem will play a two game series before everybody in the League will take their only Sunday off during the season. The Ghosts return home on Monday for a seven game homestand starting with Great Falls who is currently tied with Billings and Missoula atop the North Division.

 Dallas Cowboy third-string Quarterback Stephen McGee ran around to throw a 13-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion with 15 seconds left to give the Cowboys a 24-23 win over the Denver Broncos in the preseason opener Thursday night. The Broncos will host Buffalo on Saturday night August 20th. Denver opens up the season on Monday Night Football hosting AFC West rival Oakland on September 12th.

Johnny Cueto and two relievers made a pair of first inning runs stand up and Cincinnati Reds salvaged a spilt of their four game series against the Colorado Rockies with a 2-1 win on Thursday afternoon. Cueto struck out a season-high nine Rockie hitters, walked two and hit a batter. The Rockies are in St. Louis for a weekend series starting tonight.

Jason Giambi is returning to the Colorado Rockies after helping the Colorado Springs Sky Sox pull out a win. Giambi went 3 for 3 to help the Sky Sox take a 7-2 lead in Wednesday's game against the Memphis Redbirds. The Sky Sox went on to win 7-5. The 40-year old has been on the disabled list since July 27 with a strained left quadriceps. The series with the Redbirds was his first appearance since then. The Sky Sox set a franschise record for attendance during Giambi's stint, with over 27,000 fans attended the four-game series.
