Chipper Back In Camp, But He’s Not Coming Back
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Chipper Jones has reported to camp for the Atlanta Braves.
No, he's not coming back.
The retired third baseman is spending a few days at spring training as a special instructor. He was on the field Sunday, working with former teammates and shrugging off those who kept calling him "coach."
Jones says he thought the first week of spring training might be tough. It hasn't been. He hasn't missed the game nearly as much as he expected, staying busy with his kids, a new romantic relationship, business ventures, the banquet circuit and his ranch. Plus, he can always head to the woods to pursue another of his passions, hunting.
Jones is impressed with Atlanta's big offseason moves but says it's too early to declare the Braves the team to beat.
