The Wyoming Cowboys dropped their season opener to 15th-ranked Texas in Austin Saturday night. Cowboys receiver Robert Herron had a terrific game with 5 receptions for a career high 173 yards, including an 83 yard TD gallop.

Unfortunately, 2 interceptions thrown by Wyoming's quarterback Brett Smith led to 2 Longhorn touchdowns. Texas threw for just 156 yards, but ran the ball very effectively for 280 yards with running backs Joe Bergeron and Malcom Brown rushing the ball for 100 and 105 yards respectively. The Cowboys return to Memorial Stadium this Saturday afternoon for their home opener hosting Toledo.

The will be plenty of volleyball in Casper tonight. On the high school level, its round one between Natrona and Kelly Walsh with the Trojans hosting that match at 7pm. On the junior college level, Casper College will host LCCC from Cheyenne tonight at 7pm at Erickson Gym.

In Minor League baseball, the Grand Junction Rockies, formerly the Casper Ghosts will make the Pioneer League playoffs this season, after a 9-5 win over Idaho Falls Sunday night. The Rockies finished 2nd in both halves in the Southern Division of the League. They will meet Ogden in the playoffs. Rockies player David Dahl was named the leagues MVP hitting .378. Dahl was the 10th overall pick of the Colorado Rockies in last year's draft. Grand Junction in their first year, averaged 2700 fans per game.

In the Major Leagues, the Colorado Rockies lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in the first game of a series in Atlanta. Braves starter Kris Medlin struck out 12 Rockie hitters. Game 2 of that series is tonight.
