The Wyoming Cowgirls suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of Northern Coloardo 71-63 in the opening round of the WNIT Thursday night at the AA in Laramie. The Cowgirls were flat and sloppy, UNC energetic and sharp. The Bears led by 14 points at halftime, but the Cowgirls were able to cut it to 5 in the second half but couldn't get any closer. UNC shot 49 percent from the floor and were led in scoring by Lauren Ossdyke with 16 points. The Cowgirls shot 38 percent from the field and missed 13 free throws in the game. They were led by Chaundra Sewell with 17 in her last game with UW. Kayla Woodward (Sheridan) who had a good sophomore year for the Cowgirls had a bad shooting night, hitting only 1 of 8 shots and just 2 points. The Cowgirls finish the season at 24-9 and Northern Colorado now advances to the second round of the WNIT with a 21-12 record.

The Wyoming Cowboys will host Western Michigan Monday night in the second round of the College Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Pokes advanced after a 67-66 win over Lehigh Tuesday night when Nathan Sobey drilled a 3 pointer at the buzzer for the win. Western Michigan opened up with a 72-71 win over North Dakota State in overtime on Wednesday night. Game time is at 7:00pm and can be heard on AM 1030 KTWO.

In the men's NCAA tournament, a rough day for the Mountain West Conference. New Mexico the 3rd seed in the Midwest Regional lost to 14th seeded Harvard 68-62. It's the first tournament win for Harvard and the continued struggle for the Loboes who haven't gotten out of the first weekend since 1974.

UNLV the 5th seeded team in the East Regional lost to 12th seeded California 64-61. UNLV did not have a single field goal for over 11 minutes in the second half. Colorado State won their first NCAA tournament game since 1989 beating Missouri 84-72. The Rams shot 58 percent from the floor. CSU will now play the overall top seed in the tournament Louisville on Saturday. San Diego State will be in action today when they play Oklahoma in the South Regional.

The NCAA Wrestling Tournament got underway in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday. The Wyoming Cowboys took 7 to the nationals and are now down to 4. 194 pounder Alfonso Hernandez who's seeded fourth won both of his matches yesterday. 125 pounder Tyler Cox was seeded 12th won his first match and lost his 2nd. Two other Cowboy wrestlers are still alive in the tournament. McCade Ford who's wrestling at 141 lost his opening match, but came back to win his second match. 149 pounder Shane Richardson also lost his first match, but his second.

In the NBA, the Denver Nuggets won their 14th straight game slipping past Philadelphia 101-100 as Corey Brewer hit 2 free throws with 2 seconds to go. He finished with 29 points to lead the Nuggets to the win.
