For the first time this season the Wyoming Cowgirls have lost back-to-back games. Saturday in Idaho, UW lost to Boise State, 64-54.

Cold shooting and turnovers plagued the Cowgirls again. Wyoming shot 35 percent from the field and committed 15 turnovers. That led to 15 points for the Broncos.

In a release from the university, Wyoming head coach Joe Legerski pointed to the slow start

“Boise State was the aggressor today. They came out and got after things, and we looked a little reserved. In the third quarter, we became more aggressive, started attacking the basket, moving better, made good decisions and got back into the basketball. That’s what I’m happiest about that we were down six points with a minute to go. We kept hanging around but couldn’t make enough stops.”

Boise State built a 15-point lead late in the third quarter. A 9-0 spurt by Wyoming cut it to 46-40. The Broncos pushed the lead back to 52-40 before one last surge by the Cowgirls. A Marta Gomez three-pointer cut it to 60-54 with 45 seconds left. Free throws closed out the Boise State win.

Wyoming (15-5, 7-2) was led by Liv Roberts. She had 13 points and six rebounds. Gomez added 10 points off the bench.

Boise State (15-5, 5-4) improved to 11-1 at home. The Broncos had three players in double figures led by Marijk Vanderschaaf with 20 points. Boise State shot 45 percent from the field. They also enjoyed a 40-22 advantage on points in the paint.

The Cowgirls started out cold, as they went 1-7 from the field and immediately fell behind. UW did cut it to 21-18 shortly before half, but Boise State went on an 8-0 run. That made it 29-18 Broncos at half.

Wyoming returns home Wednesday against San Diego State. Tip-off in Laramie is at 6:30 p.m.
