Cubs Double Rockies 6-3 – MLB Roundup For May 16th

UNDATED (AP) — Raul Ibanez (rah-OOL'ih-BAHN'-yehz) again treated Yankee Stadium as his personal playground, hitting a grand slam and two-run homer to help the Seattle Mariners rout New York 12-2.

Ibanez's slam came during a seven-run first inning. It got so bad that Yankees backup shortstop Alberto Gonzalez got the final out in the ninth inning in his first professional pitching appearance.

— Jon Lester improved to 6-0, Stephen Drew hit his second career grand slam and the Boston Red Sox roughed up AL Cy Young winner David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2. Price fell to 1-4. He left because of left triceps tightness during Boston's eight-run third inning

__Tim Hudson is unbeaten against the Arizona Diamondbacks no more. The right-hander had been 7-0 in nine career starts against the D-Backs, who ended the Hudson Hex with a 5-3 victory.

__ The L.A. Dodgers took two of three from Washington with a 3-1 win over the Nationals. Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee) got the win and delivered an RBI single. This was Greinke's first game since suffering a broken left clavicle after a confrontation with San Diego's Carlos Quentin last month.

— J.P. Arencibia (ah-REHN'-sih-bah) and Adam Lind each hit two-run home runs, Ramon Ortiz won for the first time since 2011 and the Toronto Blue Jays won their season-high fourth straight game with an 11-3 win over the World Series champion Giants.

__ Cincinnati blanked Miami 4-0. Mike Leake and three relievers combined on the 11-hit shutout. Shin-Soo Choo hit two homers as the Reds won for the fifth straight time.

— Wandy Rodriguez allowed one run over seven strong innings and Neil Walker hit a two-run single as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1. The Brewers have lost 10 of 12.

__Adam Dunn unleashed two homers and drove in five runs to lead the White Sox to a 9-4 win over Minnesota. It was the 35th multihomer game of Dunn's career. Despite going 3-for-4, Dunn was only able to raise his batting average to .156, third lowest in the majors among hitters with a minimum number of at-bats. Nine of the slugger's 20 hits this season have been home runs.

— Nelson Cruz hit a three-run homer, Alexi Ogando earned his first career win against Oakland and the Texas Rangers took the rubber game with the Athletics 6-2.

— Jason Kipnis hit a three-run homer and Nick Swisher and Mike Aviles also went deep in the Indians 10-4 win over Philadelphia. Cleveland has won 12 of 16.

— Alexi Amarista had three extra-base hits as part of a season-high 17-hit attack as San Diego bounced Baltimore 8-4.

— Carlos Corporan had a tie-breaking double in the top of the ninth inning and Houston went on to a 7-5 win over Detroit to avoid season sweep. Detroit starter Max Scherzer got a no decision in his attempt to improve to 6-0.

__ Jeff Samardzija (suh-MAR'-juh) hit a two-run home run and pitched eight strong innings for his first win since opening day and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 6-3.

__ St. Louis doubled up the New York Mets 4-2. Rookie Shelby Miller followed up his nearly perfect one-hitter with 5 2-3 scoreless innings, but wasn't involved in the decision. The win went to Cards reliever Seth Maness, who's 3-0. St. Louis has the best record in baseball at 26-13.

__ The Kansas City Royals erupted with seven runs in the third inning of their 9-5 win over the L.A. Angels. Lorenzo Cain's three-run triple was the big hit in the inning.

UNDATED (AP) — Right-hander Carlos Zambrano (zam-BRAH'-noh) has agreed to a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and will report this week to Clearwater, Fla., for extended spring training. The three-time All-Star hasn't pitched in the majors since last September with Miami.

The 31-year old is 132-91 with a 3.66 ERA in 12 seasons.

— The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Josh Beckett went on the 15-day DL with a strained left groin. He is 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA in eight starts this season.
