Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander has been named the American League Most Valuable Player. It marks the first time that a pitcher has won the MVP award since Oakland's Dennis Eckersley in 1992 and the first starting pitcher since Boston's Roger Clemens in 1986. Following Verlander in the balloting were Boston centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, Toronto right fielder Jose Bautista, Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson and Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera.

Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week. In the Pokes 31-10 win over New Mexico Saturday, Smith threw for 212 yards and ran for 140 yards and 2-touchdowns. The Cowboys (7-3) are bowl eligible and will face 7th ranked Boise State on Saturday. The Cowboys are 32-point underdogs to the Broncos.

In Monday Night Football, the New England Patriots trailed 3-0 after the first quarter but rolled after that and took care of the Kansas City Chiefs 34-3. The Pats (7-3), lead the AFC East by two games. The Chiefs drop to 4-6 and trail Oakland (6-4) and Denver (5-5) in the AFC West Division.

The Wyoming Cowboys are back in action tonight at the AA when they host South Dakota. The Cowboys (2-1) are coming off their first loss, a 52-44 road loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday night. A game where the Pokes had a miserable time shooting the ball, especially in the second half. South Dakota comes into tonight's game at 1-2. Tip off tonight is at 7:00 on AM 1030 KTWO.
