Diamondbacks Drop Rockies 6-1 – MLB Roundup For July 8th

UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have company atop the National League Central standings.

Dioner Navarro (dee-AH'-nur nah-VAH'-roh) lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th to give the Chicago Cubs a 4-3 win over the Bucs in the rubber match of the three-game series. Pinch-hitter Scott Hairston's solo homer put the Cubs ahead 3-2 in the seventh, but the Pirates forced extra innings after Sterling Marte homered off Kevin Gregg with two out in the ninth.

The Pirates have dropped four of six since a nine-game winning streak gave them a two-game lead in the division.

In other NL action:

— Patrick Corbin gave up three hits in eight innings to finally get his 10th victory and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat Colorado 6-1 for their fifth straight win and a dominant three-game sweep of the Rockies. Corbin struck out 10 in his seventh attempt at win No. 10. Corbin is 10-1.

__ The L.A. Dodgers have moved into second place in the NL West heading into their three-game series with Arizona on Monday. A.J. Ellis hit a three-run double in the ninth and the Dodgers beat San Francisco 4-1. The Giants have lost 11 of 14.

— In St. Louis, Lance Lynn is 11-3 after allowing two runs and seven hits in seven innings of the Cardinals' 3-2 win over Miami. Matt Holliday hit a solo homer as the Redbirds completed a three-game sweep.

— Dominic Brown homered, tripled and had two RBIs in Philadelphia's 7-3 victory against Atlanta. Ben Revere hit a two-run triple for the Phillies, who sent the Braves to their 10th loss in their last 15 road games. Atlanta's lead in the NL East is down to four games over Washington.

— Ryan Zimmerman hit a grand slam and Anthony Rendon (rehn-DOHN') added a two-run homer while Washington was scoring six times in the third inning of an 11-7 win against San Diego. Bryce Harper added three hits and stole two bases to help the Nationals earn their fourth straight victory and send the Padres to their ninth consecutive loss.

— Jeremy Hefner allowed a run and two hits in seven innings as the New York Mets beat Milwaukee 2-1 in the rubber match of the three-game set. Josh Satin went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Mets, who turned a couple of throwing errors by third baseman Juan Francisco into two unearned runs.

Over in the AL:

— Mariano Rivera had been 29-for-30 in save opportunities this season until Adam Jones launched a two-run homer to lift Baltimore past the Yankees 2-1, ending New York's season-high six-game winning streak. The Orioles managed just three hits over the first eight innings against Hiroki Kuroda and David Robertson before picking up their third win of the season when trailing after eight innings.

— David Price tossed an eight-hitter and the Rays picked up their eighth victory in nine games by downing the Chicago White Sox 3-1. The Rays are a season-high nine games over .500 after sending the White Sox to their ninth loss in 11 games.

— Cleveland blew a 6-1 lead before Michael Brantley's two-run homer in the eighth inning sent the Indians to a 9-6 win over Detroit. Brantley was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored as the Indians beat the Tigers for the first time in eight tries.

— Josh Reddick homered and drove in four runs as Oakland ripped Kansas City 10-4. Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard also homered for the A's.

— Todd Redmond picked up his first major league win by tossing one-hit ball over five innings of Toronto's 11-5 romp over Minnesota. Rajai Davis hit a three-run homer and Jose Reyes and Colby Rasmus also went deep for the Blue Jays.

— A.J. Pierzynski (peer-ZIN'-skee) hit a three-run homer, Nelson Cruz had a tiebreaking single in the fifth inning and the Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros 5-4.

— Jered Weaver outdueled John Lackey and the Los Angeles Angels blanked the Boston Red Sox 3-0. Mike Trout and Hank Conger homered for the Angels to help Weaver improve to 3-4.

In the interleague game, Joe Saunders allowed just a run and six hits in seven innings as Seattle topped Cincinnati 3-1. Nick Franklin put the Mariners ahead with a solo homer in the first inning before Justin Smoak's two-run blast made it 3-0 in the third.

UNDATED (AP) — The Texas Rangers have placed designated hitter Lance Berkman and pitcher Nick Tepesch on the disabled list. Berkman injured a muscle in his hip and back area in last night's 9-5 loss to Houston, and Tepesch has inflammation in his right elbow. The Rangers also activated right-handed reliever Joakim Soria (WAH'-keem SOHR'-ee-uh), who hasn't pitched in the majors since September 11, 2011 with Kansas City.

Also in the majors, the San Diego Padres have placed catcher Yasmani Grandal on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right knee suffered in Saturday's loss to Washington. The Padres replaced him by recalling catcher Rene Rivera from Triple-A Tucson.

The Washington Nationals has placed left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. Detwiler was scheduled to start Monday's series opener at Philadelphia and is expected to be replaced by Dan Haren, who's currently on the DL with a shoulder injury. Haren is 4-9 with a 6.15 ERA in 15 starts this year.

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina believes a little rest is all he needs after an MRI exam on his right knee showed only inflammation. Molina says he's certain he'll play in the All-Star game after being voted into the starting lineup.

Kevin Slowey will take Ricky Nolasco's spot in the Miami Marlins rotation Monday against the Braves. Nolasco was shipped to the Dodgers on Saturday.
