UNDATED (AP) — Alex Gordon allowed the Kansas City Royals to keep their 1 ½-game lead over Detroit in the American League Central.

Gordon launched a two-run, walkoff homer in the ninth to complete the Royals' 2-1 triumph over Minnesota. The Royals were held to just three hits before Alcides (al-SEE'-dehs) Escobar led off the ninth with a single and scored on Gordon's 16th round-tripper of the season.

Wade Davis improved to 7-2 with a 0.78 ERA by working a perfect ninth after Danny Duffy held the Twins to a run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The Tigers kept pace while ending the New York Yankees' five-game winning streak. Rick Porcello picked up his career-high 15th win by allowing two runs and nine hits in eight innings of Detroit's 5-2 downing of New York. Porcello joins teammate Max Scherzer as the AL's only 15-game winners.

J.D. Martinez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to help the Tigers pick up their third straight victory.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels have regained sole possession of the AL West lead following their rout of Miami and Oakland's loss in Houston.

Efren Navarro and Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) laced a two-run single while the Angels put together a five-run fifth to beat the Marlins 8-2. Efren Navarro also had two RBIs to support Matt Shoemaker, who is 13-4 after limiting the Marlins to two hits in seven scoreless innings.

The Astros beat Oakland 4-2 on Chris Carter's three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth. The Astros rallied against Luke Gregerson after Jason Hammel held them to a run and three hits in seven innings.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Caleb Joseph had two RBIs and Jonathan Schoop (skohp) provided the go-ahead single in Baltimore's 4-2 verdict over Tampa Bay. Nelson Cruz added two hits and an RBI as the Orioles increased their lead in the AL East to seven games over the New York Yankees.

— Seattle was a 5-0 winner over Texas behind James Paxton, who yielded just four hits in 6 2/3 innings. Robinson Cano (kah-NOH') put the Mariners ahead with a first-inning homer and Endy Chavez added a two-run double as Seattle stayed a half-game ahead of Detroit for the final AL wild-card berth.

— Matt Kemp smacked a two-run homer and Justin Turner drove in a pair as the Los Angeles Dodgers hammered Arizona 9-5 to keep their five-game lead over San Francisco in the NL West. Dee Gordon had three of the Dodgers' 14 hits.

— The Giants were 3-0 winners over Colorado as Madison Bumgarner struck out 13 in a one-hitter. Bumgarner was working on a perfect game until Justin Morneau led off the eighth with a double. Buster Posey provided the scoring with a two-run blast and a solo shot.

— Washington still leads the NL East by 7 ½ games over Atlanta after both teams lost. The Nats erased a 3-0 deficit before Carlos Ruiz hit a sacrifice in the bottom of the eighth to give the Phillies a 4-3 triumph over Washington in Philadelphia. Freddy Galvis and Darin Ruf homered for the Philies, but the Nationals eventually tied the game on Asdrubal (as-DROO'-bul) Cabrera's solo shot in the top of the eighth.

— The Braves failed to cut their deficit as Juan Lagares (lah-GAHR'-ehs) hit a two-run homer, scored twice and made several impressive catches in center fielder to lead the Mets' 3-2 triumph over Atlanta. Dillon Gee allowed two runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings to help the Mets send the Braves to their third consecutive loss.

— Tyson Ross was terrific in San Diego's 4-1 win against Milwaukee, giving up a run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Abraham Almonte hit a solo homer and an RBI single as the Padres prevented the Brewers from padding their 1 ½-game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central.

— Pinch-hitter Ike Davis ripped a tiebreaking, three-run homer with two out in the bottom of the eighth to lift Pittsburgh past the Cardinals 5-2. The Pirates finished the game without center fielder Andrew McCutchen, who left after five innings due to rib discomfort.

— Johnny Cueto (KWAY'-toh) failed to become the majors' first 16-game winner of the season as Arismendy Alcantara (ar-ihs-MEHN'-dee al-KAN'-tah-rah) hit a two-run homer and Anthony Rizzo added a solo blast in the Chicago Cubs' fourth straight win, 3-0 against Cincinnati. Travis Wood pitched six innings of two-hit ball against his former team for his first victory in two months.

— Cleveland beat the Chicago White Sox 8-6 on Zach Walters' two-run homer in the top of the 10th. Jason Kipnis and Mike Aviles each had two hits and an RBI for the Indians, who remain 5 ½ games off the AL Central lead following their third straight win.

— Mike Napoli belted a three-run homer and Allen Craig added a two-run shot while Boston erupted for seven runs in the 11th to beat Toronto 11-7. Dustin Pedroia (peh-DROY'-uh) capped his four-RBI game by delivering the tiebreaking, two-run single in the 11th.

UNDATED (AP) — Detroit Tigers pitcher Anibal (AH'-nih-bahl) Sanchez said he was feeling better after experiencing pain in his right pectoral on Monday. Sanchez is 8-5 with a 3.46 ERA, but he hasn't pitched since Aug. 8 due to a pectoral strain.

Manager Brad Ausmus said Sanchez will not be able to return for Saturday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox as hoped.

Also in the majors:

— The Seattle Mariners have rewarded general manager Jack Zduriencik (zur-EHN'-sihk) with a multi-year contract extension with the club in playoff contention late in the season. The new pact comes as the Mariners are challenging for their first playoff berth in 13 years.

— Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton is hitting leadoff tonight against Cleveland after coming off the 15-day disabled list. He was placed on the DL Aug. 9 with a strained right oblique after hitting .304 with seven triples and 55 runs scored in 94 games.

— And the Chicago Cubs have reinstated shortstop Starlin Castro from the bereavement list in time to start tonight's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.
