The first rankings of the Girls Prep Basketball season are out from Wyopreps.com Coaches and Media Poll.

For the most part,  the top teams on the girls charts are those who finished near the top last March. #1′s are Natrona, Douglas, Lovell, and Cokeville. No teams were unanimous at the top, but, the votes weren’t as spread out as much as the boy’s poll either.

4A:

Natrona takes the top spot this year. The Fillies were runner up last year losing just one game in their 25-1 season. That game was a 38 to 35 title game loss to Laramie. Back for NC is Gatorade Player of the Year, Kaylee Johnson, who is a junior. Sheridan ranks 2nd with Gillette third. Defending champion Laramie is fourth with East fifth. #1 NC is at #5 East on Friday, November 30th. KW, Green River, Central, Evanston and Rock Springs also received votes.

3A:

From consolation champions to state champions is the trend voters are predicting for Douglas The Lady Bearcats took 8 of 17 top votes to rank #1. Star Valley, who lost the third place game last March, ranks #2 with 5 #1′s. Torrington looks to build on their third place finish and ranks third. Rawlins and Cody round out the top five. 2-time defending champion Wheatland got 2 #1 votes, but not enough supporting help and are essentially ranked 6th.   Powell, Lander, Buffalo, and Mountain View also were mentioned.

2A:

While 3A’s two time champs weren’t shown much love, Lovell is the opposite. The two time 2A champs are #1 to start the year after going 25 and 1 on their way to the title.   Tongue River is second. TR went 24 and 4 last year and finished third. Thermopolis, last year’s runner up, is third.  Tongue River goes to Thermop’s tournament to start the year next week. Southeast and Wyoming Indian round out the top five. Shoshoni, Big Horn, Pine Bluffs, Wind River, Wright, and Kemmerer also had votes.

1A:

Cokeville is targeted to win it all in 1A for a second straight year. The Panthers finished 2nd to undefeated Little Snake River last year. Burlington is second, though, with the Lady Rattlers third. Lingle-Ft. Laramie, last year’s consolation champions with no seniors, ranks fourth and Kaycee’s Lady Bucs is fifth. Upton, Farson, Hulett, and Dubois were also mentioned in the polls.
