Goalie Gets A Goal – NHL News And Scores For March 22nd

UNDATED (AP) — He already holds the records for most wins and shutouts by an NHL goalie. Now Martin Brodeur (mar-TAN’ broh-DOOR’) tops the league’s netminders in goals scored.

The New Jersey goalie with credited with the third goal of his career in the Devils 4-1 win over Carolina. The Hurricanes Jordan Staal passed the puck from behind the net on a delayed penalty and it went all the way down the ice an into the Carolina net. Since Brodeur was the last Devils player to touch the puck, he earned the goal.

He also made 17 saves in his first game since Feb. 21 when he was sidelined with a pinched nerve in his upper back and neck.

In other NHL play;

— Kari Lehtonen made 40 saves for his first shutout of the season as Dallas blanked the Los Angeles Kings 2-0. Forty-one-year old Jaromir Jagr (YAR’-oh-meer YAH’-gur) and 40-year old Ray Whitney scored 4:22 apart in the third period to back up Lehtonen’s effort.

—Jordan Schroeder scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lift Vancouver to a 2-1 win over Phoenix.

— Braden Holtby made 19 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as Washington topped Winnipeg 4-0. Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and two assists.

— Dennis Seidenberg scored with 1:04 left to give Boston a 2-1 win over Ottawa.

— Mike Fisher scored twice in Nashville’s 5-2 win over Calgary that snapped the Predators four-game losing streak.

— Jacob Markstrom made 44 saves to pace Florida to a 3-1 win over the Rangers. Brian Campbell stakes Markstrom to a first period lead, and Scottie Upshall made it 2-0 in the second.

— Brian Gionta scored the go-ahead goal 48 seconds into the third period and Brendan Gallagher added two more as hard charging Montreal beat the Islanders 5-2. Montreal is 14-1-4 since the 6-0 drubbing by Toronto six weeks ago.

— Steve Ott scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout to give Buffalo a 5-4 win over Toronto.
