Federal Prosecutors say a Major League Baseball team has fallen victim to a fraud scheme.

Michael Conway of Vernon, New Jersey has been forging leases for office equipment, which provided him a list of clients. That list shown to investors provided the money to buy the equipment to be leased.

According to prosecutors the leases were fraudulent and Conway pocketed over 3 million.

One of Conway's phony leases involved the New York Mets. Conway allegedly forged the signature of the team’s chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon, according to prosecutors.

The Mets are in the hunt this season. If their run continues, they could be back in the World Series for the first time in 29 years.
