Illinois Topples Indiana – Top 25 News And Notes For February 8th

UNDATED (AP) — Indiana's latest stay atop The Associated Press men's basketball poll likely will end on Monday.

Tyler Griffey hit an uncontested layup at the buzzer to complete Illinois' comeback in a 74-72 win over Hoosiers. Griffey took the inbounds pass from Brandon Paul with 0.9 seconds left and tossed the ball into the basket, ending Illinois' three-game skid.

The Illini were just 2-7 in the Big Ten and trailed by double digits most of the second half before closing the game on a 13-2 run over the final 3:36.

D.J. Richardson led Illinois with 23 points, while Paul added 21. Griffey finished with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Hoosiers fell to 20-3 overall, 8-2 in the conference.

It marks the fifth straight week the nation's top-ranked team has lost.

Indiana's loss gives fourth-ranked Duke an opportunity to reclaim the No. 1 ranking again. Mason Plumlee poured in 30 points and the Blue Devils improved to 20-2 with a 98-85 decision over North Carolina State. Seth Curry added 26 points and Quinn Cook had 21 as the Blue Devils won their fourth in a row. Duke never trailed shot 54 percent and led by as many as 21.

In other top-25 action, Kevin Pangos scored 14 points and sixth-ranked Gonzaga cruised to an 82-56 win over Pepperdine. The Bulldogs shot 12-for-27 from three-point range and held the Waves to 36 percent shooting from the field.

Andre Roberson scored 10 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and hit the game-winning bucket with 29 seconds left as Colorado handed No. 19 Oregon its third straight loss, 48-47. Roberson's final basket capped an 8-0 run that ended the Ducks' 20-game home winning streak.

Fabyon Harris capped his 17-point night by draining a go-ahead three-pointer with 12 seconds left to give Texas A&M a 70-68 win over No. 21 Missouri. The Tigers are 0-5 in true road games this season.
