Jim Kelly Appears To Be Cancer Free – NFL Roundup

UNDATED (AP) — Jim Kelly shows no evidence of sinus cancer three months after the Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback completed radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Dr. Peter Costantino says in a release issued by New York City's Lennox Hill Hospital that the treatments have "completely eliminated" any pain Kelly was experiencing. He says Kelly's level of function has "essentially returned to normal."

Costantino says a series of tests over the next week will determine if further treatments are necessary.

Kelly had surgery in June 2013 to remove cancerous cells in his upper jaw. The cancer then spread to his sinus.

UNDATED (AP) — Browns coach Mike Pettine (PEHT'-ihn) has picked Brian Hoyer as starting quarterback over rookie Johnny Manziel (man-ZEHL') for the Sept. 7 opener against Pittsburgh.

Pettine delayed his decision after both Hoyer and Manziel played poorly in an exhibition loss at Washington on Monday. During that game, Manziel gave the finger to the Redskins sideline, an act Pettine says was factored into the decision.

— Former Minnesota Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff has been nominated as the senior finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2015 class of inductees. Tingelhoff will join 15 modern-era finalists and two contributor finalists on the ballot.
