McCullough Leads Cowboys at MW Golf Championships

Sophomore Drew McCullough finished at 5-under par and tied for sixth place to lead the Wyoming Cowboys at the 2016 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championships.

The tournament wrapped up Sunday in Tucson, AZ, where McCullough shot a 3-under, 69. He became the first Cowboy to finish in the top 10 at the conference championships since 2011.

As a team, Wyoming came in sixth place at 3-under par with a three-day total of 861, out of 11 teams in the field.

UW head coach Joe Jensen said in a university release that his guys played hard in the final round.

“I’m proud of the guys for the way they competed this last round. It’s very much mixed emotions for us as we were two shots from third place… Drew (McCullough) has built himself a solid resume and he played great this weekend.”

Junior Ryan Wallen tied for 15th place after a three round score of 214, 2-under par. It’s his best-career finish at the MW Championships. Senior Kamrin Allen came back with a 4-under, 68, and came in tied for 22nd.

No. 29 UNLV posted a team score of 18-under par, 846, and won by three strokes over New Mexico.

Fresno State’s Trevor Clayton was the medalist thanks to two-stroke victory. He finished at 9-under par.
