Metta World Peace (born Ron Artest) has had a tumultuous career in the NBA. He was arguably the cause of the now infamous 2004 Pacers-Pistons Brawl and is well known for having a temper AND being prone to aggression (see also: fights). On the brighter side of things, he does hold a championship title as part of the 2010 Los Angeles Lakers. That (and that alone), must have been the deciding factor which garnered him a new 1-year contract with the franchise again.

Considering the Lakers have been in rebuild mode, gaining a lot of younger talent and not being able to be dependent on their resident superstar, Kobe Bryant, mainly due to injuries, you have to wonder why the Lakers did decide to seek out World Peace again. Last season, he didn't even play in the league. Metta did have some success overseas, playing in China, but even that ended in a brawl. The veteran card really doesn't seem to apply to the big man either, as he can be just as much (if not more) of a hindrance than a help to already struggling team.
