The two Casper high school basketball programs opened up their 2011-12 seasons Thursday at the McDonald's Classic in Cheyenne. On the boys side, both NC and KW picked up wins.Natrona started off with a 56-40 win over Laramie. Jake Bratton led the Mustangs with 14 points followed by Steven Dach with 13. Sam Feldman led the Plainsmen with 12 points. NC will play Cheyenne East tonight. The Kelly Walsh Trojans under new coach Randy Roden beat Cheyenne Central 47-40. KW was led in scoring by Jacob Tapp with 16-points and Tim Nganga with 11. The Trojans will play Cheyenne South tonight.

On the girls side,  Natrona won their opener getting by Laramie 39-37. The Fillies trailed 30-29 after 3 quarters but outscored the Lady Plainsmen 10-7 in the 4th quarter for the win. Kayzanne Graney led the Filles with 11 points. Laramie was led in scoring by Madison Legerski with 11. NC will play East today. Kelly Walsh dropped their opener to Cheyenne Central 37-15. The Trojans could only score 2 points in the first half. KW was led in scoring by Lauren Schiller with 6 points. Kelly Walsh will play South today.

AM 1400 ESPN will again cover Natrona and Kelly Walsh basketball this season. The first boys games will be on Friday and Saturday Dec. 16-17 in Billings with both games at Billings West High School. Natrona will play their on  that Friday night at 7:30pm. Kelly Walsh plays West that Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
