UNDATED (AP) — Just hours after San Francisco Tim Lincecum (LIHN'-seh-kuhm) tossed a no-hitter, Justin Verlander flirted with one.

The Tigers pitcher held Texas hitless until the seventh inning in a 5-0 Detroit win. Mitch Moreland's two-out double to right-center broke up Verlander's bid for his third career no-hitter. Verlander left the game after the seventh with a tight right quad muscle, having allowed just that one hit and three walks. He improved to 10-6.

Torii Hunter, Victor Martinez and Jhonny (JAH'-nee) Peralta hit solo homers off Texas starter Martin Perez. The Rangers finished with two hits.

In other AL action before the start of the All-Star break:

— Chris Davis hit his 37th home run to tie the AL record before the All-Star break, and the Baltimore Orioles cruised past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4. Davis doubled in two runs in the first inning and hit a two-run homer in the third to give him 93 RBIs, second-most in the majors behind Detroit's Miguel Cabrera. Toronto manager John Gibbons had one word to describe Davis: "Superman."

— Rookie Chris Archer pitched a five-hitter for his first complete game in the majors and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Houston Astros 5-0. Archer struck out eight and walked none to improve to 4-3 in his 13th big league start. Desmond Jennings homered as the Rays won for the 14th time in 16 games. Houston has lost 12 of 15 and has the worst record in the majors at 33-61.

— Asdrubal Cabrera (ahs-DROO'-buhl kah-BREHR'-uh) hit a two-run double to cap a three-run sixth in Cleveland's 6-4 win over Kansas City. The Indians got into the All-Star break with a four-game winning streak and 51-44 record. It's Cleveland's most wins at the break since they last made the playoffs in 2007.

— Aaron Hicks had a three-run homer to help Minnesota top the Yankees 10-4. The Twins beat CC Sabathia (suh-BA'-thee-uh) for the first time in six years to take two of three from the Yankees.

— Hisashi Iwakuma (hih-SAH'-shee ih-wah-KOO'-muh) won for the first time in over a month and the Seattle Mariners completed their first sweep of the season, beating the Los Angeles Angels 4-3.

Over in the NL:

__ The St. Louis Cardinals head into the All-Star break with a one-game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central. The Cards rapped out 21 hits and beat the Chicago Cubs 10-6 Sunday night. Allen Craig's ninth-inning single drove in Carlos Beltran with the go-ahead run. Yadier Molina (YAH'-dee-eer moh-LEE'-nah) added a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

— Dillon Gee allowed an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings to help the Mets beat Pittsburgh 4-2. John Buck's two-run single highlighted a three-run first inning for New York.

—Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer in Cincinnati's four-run third inning on the way to an 8-4 win over Atlanta. The Braves head into the break leading the NL East by six games over Washington.

— Denard Span had three hits, including a tiebreaking two-out RBI double in the 10th inning, and Washington beat the Miami Marlins 5-2.

— Carlos Quentin hit one of San Diego's four home runs and drove in three runs as the Padres routed Barry Zito (ZEE'-toh) and the San Francisco Giants 10-1, a day after being no-hit by Tim Lincecum (LINZ'-ih-kuhm).

— Wily (WIH'-lee) Peralta pitched seven effective innings, Logan Schafer homered and drove in two runs and the Milwaukee Brewers ended a four-game losing streak by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1.

— Michael Cuddyer (kuh-DY'-ur) hit a two-run homer and drove in another run to help the Colorado Rockies defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 to earn a split in their four-game series.

— In the interleague game, John Mayberry Jr. hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift Philadelphia over the White Sox 4-3. All three games in the series went extra innings with the teams played a totaling 34 innings over 11 hours, 12 minutes.

NEW YORK (AP) — Pittsburgh pitcher Mark Melancon (MEHL'-ehn-suhn) has been picked as a replacement for the NL All-Star team, giving the Pirates five players in the game for the first time since 1972.

NL manager Bruce Bochy (BOH'-chee) also selected Sergio Romo, his San Francisco Giants closer, as a replacement pick Sunday along with Atlanta catcher Brian McCann. Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke, Washington Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, all on the original NL All-Star roster, are hurt and will miss Tuesday night's game at Citi Field.

St. Louis closer Edward Mujica (moo-HEE'-kuh) was chosen to fill in for teammate Adam Wainwright, who won Sunday night's game with six innings of work.

Baltimore pitcher Chris Tillman, Kansas City closer Greg Holland and Oakland closer Grant Balfour were chosen by AL manager Jim Leyland (LEE'-lahnd) of Detroit to replace Tigers ace Justin Verlander, Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma and Oakland's Bartolo Colon (bar-TOH'-loh koh-LOHN'), who all started Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillies have placed outfielder Ben Revere on the 15-day disabled list, one day after he broke his right foot by fouling a ball off of it.

Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro says Revere will have further tests on Monday to determine the extent of his injury.

Revere is hitting .305 this season and .431 in the last 15 games.
