Royals Force Game 7 – MLB Roundup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have stretched the World Series to the limit.

The Royals have forced a seventh game by erupting for seven runs in the second inning of a 10-0 rout of the San Francisco Giants. Eight Royals scored a run or drove in a run — or did both — during the rally. Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run single and Eric Hosmer (HAHZ'-mur) added a two-run double before Billy Butler capped the barrage with an RBI double.

Cain went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Mike Moustakas was 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Winning pitcher Yordano Ventura was outstanding over seven innings, giving up three hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Jason Frasor and Tim Collins each threw one inning of relief to complete the six-hitter.

Giants starter and loser Jake Peavy (PEE'-vee) was chased in the second, charged with five runs and six hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Jeremy Guthrie starts Wednesday night for Kansas City against Tim Hudson in a rematch of Game 3, won by Kansas City 3-2. The 39-year-old Hudson will become the oldest Game 7 starter in Series history.

SOSUA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Thousands of people in the Dominican Republic attended the burial of former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras.

Among those at the funeral Tuesday were Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak (moh-ZAY'-lahk) and manager Mike Matheny (muh-THEE'-nee).

The 22-year-old slugger was considered one of baseball's top prospects. Taveras hit .239 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 80 games in his only season in the majors.

Taveras died Sunday after authorities say he lost control of his 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. His girlfriend also was killed in the crash.

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays claimed Seattle Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak off waivers. The 27-year-old Smoak appeared in 80 games for the Mariners last season, batting.202 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs.

The former first-round pick of the Texas Rangers in 2008 has spent parts of five seasons in the majors. He's got a career .224 average with 74 home runs in 566 games.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former major league slugger Jose Canseco is recovering after shooting himself in the hand at his Las Vegas home.

Metro police Lt. Mark Reddon says the former Oakland Athletics outfielder told police he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired, shooting a finger on his left hand. He was taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
