It's a short 2 month season for soccer teams, which means there's no fooling around with games and/or the first coaches/media rankings of the season.

The 4A Boys Rankings could either indicate a tight race for the top spot, or a crazy one similar to basketball. Gillette starts the season ranked #1, but the interesting part was that no one voted them #1 on their ballots. The main reason that they got the top spot, was because they got more overall votes, than any other team. On Thursday, Gillette travels to Sheridan for their conference opening game. One vote behind the Camels, is #2 Riverton who could have an argument for the #1 ranking. The Wolverines are 5-0 and have yet to give up a goal on the season. One vote back at #3 is Laramie, who were the last team to start their season. The polls closed at the about the same time the Plainsmen won their game vs. now #4 Natrona, thus the voters weren't sure what to think about the 2-time defending champs. Cheyenne East occupies the #5 ranking, even though those who voted for the Thunderbirds, gave them #4 votes.

In the 3A Boys rankings, every team is still looking up at defending champ Jackson. The unanimous #1 ranked Broncs went undefeated last year, and are off to a good start this season. Behind them is #2 Lander and #3 Worland, who tried to play each other this past Saturday, but Mother Nature erased that game from the records. It has been rescheduled for April 25th. Buffalo is the #4 ranked team, and look to recover from the season opening loss at Worland last week. After them, Rawlins is in at #5 spot, but that will probably be short-lived, because the Outlaws lost their home opener, just before the voting polls closed, and most of the votes, had already been entered in.

The first 4A girls rankings is an all East list. Defending champ East and last year's runner-up Sheridan start the 2015 season ranked #1 and #2. The Lady Thunderbirds have shut out all 3 of their opponents so far this season, while the Lady Broncs have only given up 1 goal. Behind both of them is #3 Gillette, who also has not been scored on. The Lady Camels travel to Sheridan on Thursday in a big conference opening matchup. Elsewhere, #4 Cheyenne Central and #5 Laramie complete the East's domination of the rankings.

3A Girls could have an interesting season. Star Valley races out to the #1 ranking, but is in the middle of a near 3-week off stretch in their schedule due to spring break. Worland starts the season ranked #2, and Cody is #3. Last year's state champs and runner-ups, Buffalo and Lander have to settle for the #4 and #5 spots for the time being.

Regional Rankings: The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released it's first rankings for the Spring 2015 season, before Wyoming got started.

No Wyoming teams are ranked nationally, but Laramie girls were ranked #9 in Region 5, which contains teams from Wyoming, Colorado, California, and Alaska.

Disclaimer: The polls have no official say or use on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don’t read too much into the rankings.
