Casper College Men’s Basketball Coach Dan Russell announced Friday that he has signed a shooting guard from New Jersey.

Hakeem Rogers, from Elizabeth, is a 6-2 transfer from Harcum JC in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He was the second leading scorer on a team that made it to the final four in the National Junior College Tournament, averaging 15 points and four rebounds per contest. He helped Harcum to a 32-5 record and a fourth place national finish this past season as a freshman. He shot 51 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

Russell says Rogers was ranked among the top 60 seniors in New Jersey coming out of high school. He decided to transfer to Casper because former Harcum assistant Kevon Davis just joined Russell’s staff this week.

Rogers played his prep ball at Elizabeth High School in north New Jersey. As a junior he led his team to the Group IV state championship game, averaging 19 points per game. He is a two-time all-county selection, finishing his prep career with 1,090 points.

“Adding a player of Hakeem’s caliber with his experience and toughness this late in the recruiting season is a real bonus,” Russell says. “He has a knack for shooting and scoring the ball and he will give us added depth on our guard line.”
