University of Wyoming senior student-athletes Chaundra Sewell (women’s basketball) and Luke Ruff (football) received the highest honors the Mountain West Conference presents to student-athletes as they were named the 2013 Mountain West Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year on Tuesday in an announcement made by the conference office.

Junior Chelan Landry hit the game-winning shot on a drive to the basket with 19 seconds left, and the Wyoming Cowgirls survived and advanced with a 60-58 victory over Colorado State in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Reese's Mountain West Women's Basketball Championships in Las Vegas Thursday night. The Cowgirls rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half with a 20-3 run and made the critical plays in the final minute to move on to the semifinals against Fresno State Friday afternoon.

A lack of offensive firepower hampered the Wyoming Cowboys, as they lost to the #14 New Mexico Lobos 59-46 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Basketball Championships in Las Vegas Wednesday night. UW shot only 32 percent from the field and could never mount a serious challenge to the Lobos, who ended the game on a 12-4 run to advance to the MW tournament semifinals Friday night.

It is the third MW weekly accolade Sewell has earned this season and of her career. She shares the honor with UNLV forward Rejane Verin.
