Wizards Go Up 2-0 Over Bulls – NBA Roundup

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Wizards are in command of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Bulls after taking the first two games in Chicago.

Nene (NAY'-nay) scored the first six points of overtime before Trevor Booker and John Wall each hit two free throws in the final minute of the Wizards' 101-99 victory over the Bulls. Bradley Beal hit four 3-pointers and paced Washington with 26 points. Nene delivered 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds before fouling out.

D.J. Augustin was one of three Bulls with at least 20 points, finishing with 25. Taj Gibson chipped in 22 points and Joakim (JOH'-keem) Noah added 20 for Chicago.

The series shifts to Washington for Game 3 on Friday.

The Indiana Pacers have managed to tie their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at a game apiece by dominating the third quarter of a 101-85 win over Atlanta.

The Hawks led by four before the Pacers outscored them 31-13 in the third period to salvage a split on their home court. George Hill scored all 15 of his points in the second half to lead the Indiana surge.

Paul George poured in 27 points while holding Jeff Teague (teeg) to 14.

Paul Millsap had a team-high 19 points for the Hawks, who host Game 3 on Thursday.

Toronto also knotted its conference quarterfinal series at a game apiece by rallying in the fourth quarter to beat the Brooklyn Nets 100-95. DeMar DeRozan had 30 points to help the Raptors bounced back from a 94-87 loss to the Nets on Saturday. Jonas Valanciunas (YOH'-nahs val-ehn-CHOO'-nuhs) had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Raptors, who outscored Brooklyn 36-29 in the final period.

Joe Johnson scored 18 points for the Nets, but Paul Pierce shot 2-for-11 in scoring just seven points.

Game 3 is Friday in Brooklyn.

UNDATED (AP) — San Antonio's Gregg Popovich has joined Pat Riley and Don Nelson as the only coaches to win the NBA's Coach of the Year Award three times.

Popovich led the Spurs to a league-best 62-20 record, ensuring them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. He has led the Spurs to 15 straight 50-win seasons, finishing with at least 60 victories four times in that span.

Popovich garnered 59 first-place votes. Phoenix's Jeff Hornacek (HORN'-uh-sehk) finished second and Chicago's Tom Thibodeau (THIH'-buh-doh) was third in the voting.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Golden State Warriors have agreed to terms to buy 12 acres of land in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood to build a new arena.

The proposed arena is targeted for a 2018-19 opening and will hold about 18,000 seats. The Warriors say it will be privately financed on private land near the San Francisco Giants' ballpark.
