There’s a new dynamic surrounding the 2016-17 Wyoming Cowgirls, as practice has started for the upcoming women’s basketball season.

For starters, there’s no returning all-conference performer for the first time in several years. Second, the go-to player in Marquelle Dent and fellow senior Jordan Kelley have also departed. Finally, the Cowgirls remain a team with lots of youth.

This year’s roster features 15 players with one senior and a total of five upperclassmen.

The lone senior is Hailey Ligocki from Sheridan. She played in 27 games last season with 17 starts. Ligocki averaged 4.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

KOWB’s David Settle recently caught up with Ligocki to discuss her role; this season’s squad; how this team fits together and a tough slate ahead.

Wyoming does return four starters and 11 letterwinners from a team that finished 13-16 last season and 6-12, tied for eighth in the Mountain West.

The Cowgirls first action will be an exhibition game against South Dakota Mines Nov. 4.
