After being served with 3 #1 vs. #2 games last week, there's one more this week, and the latest coaches/media suggest some very interesting matchups to start the second half of the season.

Thanks to last week's win, Gillette takes over the #1 ranking in 4A Boys. Former #1 Sheridan drops to #2, and seem to be in a bit of a downward spiral, because they followed the Gillette, with another loss home to 3A Buffalo earlier this week. This is the weekend that #3 Laramie has been waiting for, because they get #2 and #1 back-to-back at home. The time to strike is now! Undefeated Green River is up one spot to #4. All of those tie games vs. 3A opponents is probably what's holding them back from a higher rankings. This Friday, they visit a Rock Springs team that's just outside the top 5 and is looking in. Cheyenne Central has that #5 position, down 2 spots from last week.

For now, the voters are convinced that Jackson is the #1 3A boys team. The Broncs shut out #2 Worland last week, and have top honors unanimously. Most of the action this week will be on the #3, #4 and #5 positions. That would Torrington, Buffalo and Lander in that order. On Friday, the TrailBlazers hope to take care of some unfinished at home vs. Lander...a team that they're already 0-2 against this season. Then on Saturday, Buffalo hosts Torrington, and the Bison have their own score to settle, because they've lost 3 straight vs. the 'Blazers.

Laramie is the unanimous #1 4A girls team...and they have a big opportunity to prove it. The Lady Plainsmen have shut out their last 6 opponents, but the remaining 5 games on their schedule are all vs. conference opponents, and they're all on the road. Starting with #4 Sheridan and #2 Gillette, back-to-back. #3 Cheyenne Central has picked up some momentum as of late, and they will need it on Thursday, when they visit a Cheyenne East team, that's looking to get back into the hunt. Green River has broken the east conference's strangle-hold on the top 5. The Lady Wolves are the first team from the west this season to be ranked. They claim the #5 position.

The latest 3A Girls rankings are unchanged from last week. Jackson stays at #1, followed by Worland, Buffalo, Star Valley and Cody. SV has the tough weekend as the Lady Braves visit #1 Jackson on Friday, then host #2 Worland the day after.
