One weekend of basketball games are in the books, and a new #1 has emerged in the coaches/media rankings, plus a few new teams have earned a ranking, heading into another big weekend.

Kelly Walsh retains the #1 4A boys ranking. They are the only team that went undefeated to start the season. The voters did not punish #2 Gillette for their 1-2 start, because both of their losses, came again non-Wyoming opponents, and remember, the defending champ Camels went undefeated vs. Wyoming teams last season. East holds at #3, while Evanston moves ahead of Natrona for the #4 spot, by 1 vote, bumping the Mustangs down to #5. The Red Devils get a chance to prove themselves this weekend, against the Thunderbirds and the Camels at the Flaming Gorge Invitational.

Wheatland wasted no time climbing to the top of the 3A polls, and Rawlins moved up to #2. The Bulldogs and Outlaws both topped then #1 and then #2 Cody and Powell last week, but Rawlins had to dig themselves out of a huge hole against the defending champs and that probably cost them a few votes. Star Valley only played once last week, and moved up to #3, while Lander rides and undefeated streak into the #4 ranking. Meanwhile, the Broncs dropped to #5, but get a rematch vs. the Outlaws this Friday in Lander. Glenrock is last season's 3A state runner-up and they also undefeated, but so far, all of their wins have come against 2A competition.

2A is a tight race in the rankings, and the season is just getting started. Wyoming Indian is still #1, but undefeated Rocky Mountain and Greybull are not far behind them. Wind River has gotten some attention, after an undefeated start last weekend in Burns. The voters give the Cougars the #4 spot, knocking Pine Bluffs down to #5.

This is a big weekend in 1A. Burlington holds at #1, because their 1 loss was against 2A rival Rocky Mountain. The Huskies will get the big test Friday, when they host co-#2 Little Snake River. Both Burlington and the Rattlers also visit the 2A Grizzlies on Saturday. As mentioned, LSR is a co-#2, because they share the ranking with Upton, who won their own tournament, beating former #2, now #5 Guernsey-Sunrise is the process. Encampment moves up to the #4 spot. The Tigers and Vikings are scheduled to play each other this Saturday at Lingle.
