Jordan Naughton scored 15 points to lead four Cowboys in double figures, as Wyoming won at San Jose State, 80-70, Wednesday night.

Louis Adams scored 14 points, while Jason McManamen and Justin James added 10 points apiece.

“Any win on the road is great for our basketball team. Just for the growth of our ball club, we had to learn how to win on the road to move forward. We focused on defending and ball movement in the first half and found a way to overcome not having that success in the second half,” said head coach Allen Edwards in a release from UW.

Wyoming (13-6, 3-3) got off to a fast start. A pair of runs gave them a big lead by halftime. The Cowboys went on a 12-0 spurt for a 20-8 lead midway through the first half. A late 11-0 run gave UW a 50-29 lead. A Spartans’ lay-up cut it to 50-31 at half.

San Jose State (9-8, 2-4) made a push in the second half. An early 14-3 run pulled the Spartans within 10. Another rally late cut it to six with just over a minute left. Free throws from James and Alan Herndon in the final 46 seconds provided the final margin.

The Cowboys shot 46 percent from the field. They were only 3-18 (17%) from beyond the arc. Wyoming scored a season-high 48 points in the paint. They also scored 21 points on second chance opportunities. UW had a 41-35 edge on the glass, which included 15 offensive rebounds.

San Jose State was led by Brandon Clarke with 19 points and 13 rebounds. They shot 45 percent in the game, but also had 17 turnovers.

The Pokes continue their road swing Saturday at New Mexico. Game time is 6 p.m.
