For a second straight year, University of Wyoming senior Kayla Woodward has been selected the Mountain West pre-season women's basketball player of the year.

The conference released its pre-season all-conference team and media poll Tuesday.

Woodward earned the same distinction a year ago. She was a First Team All-Mountain West selection last season. Woodward averaged 16.7 points, good for second in the league, and 6.9 rebounds per game during the 2013-14 conference games.

She is joined on the pre-season All-MW team by Boise State's Deanna Weaver, Colorado State's Ellen Nystrom, Fresno State's Alex Sheedy and San Jose State's Ta'Rea Cunnigan.

As for the Cowgirls as a team, they were picked to finish third in the upcoming 2014-15 conference basketball season.

Colorado State was tabbed as the pre-season favorite. Boise State was selected second, but only six points in the balloting ahead of Wyoming. Fresno State and Nevada round out the top five or the pre-season poll.
