UNDATED (AP) — Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel was within one out of a milestone save before the Cincinnati Reds flexed their muscles.

Devin Mesoraco and Shin-Soo Choo hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the ninth to power the Reds past the Braves 5-4. Kimbrel fanned the first two batters in the ninth and was one strike away from his 100th career save before Mesoraco connected for his first career pinch-hit homer. Choo won it with his second homer of the game.

Also in the majors, Matt Harvey tossed a one-hitter for nine innings before Mike Baxter's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th gave the New York Mets a 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. Harvey had a perfect game until Alex Rios hit an infield single with two out in the seventh, the White Sox's lone baserunner of the night. Harvey also struck out a career-high 12 and lowered his ERA to 1.28.

Chase Utley was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs as Philadelphia beat San Francisco 6-2. Ryan Howard also homered to support Kyle Kendrick, who allowed two runs in seven innings to improve to 4-1.

Eric Stults pitched seven-hit ball into the seventh inning as San Diego won for the 10th time in 13 games, beating Miami 5-1. Will Venable highlighted the offense with a two-run homer and three ribbies.

Arizona beat the Dodgers 5-3 on Paul Goldschmidt's two-run homer in the top of the ninth. Goldschmidt drove in three runs and Didi Gregorius collected three hits as the Diamondbacks dealt Los Angeles its sixth consecutive loss.

Jorge De La Rosa scattered three hits in six shutout innings as Colorado blanked the New York Yankees 2-0. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda (hih-ROH'-kee kah-ROH'-dah) blanked the Rockies until Carlos Gonzalez crushed a two-run homer in the sixth.

Emergency starter Jeanmar (ZHAHN'-mahr) Gomez allowed just two hits in five shutout innings as Pittsburgh downed Seattle 4-1. Andrew McCutchen went 4 for 4 with an RBI-double and Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer.

Yuniesky (yoo-NEHS'-kee) Betancourt and Aramis (ah-RAH'-mihs) Ramirez homered as Milwaukee beat Texas 6-3 to snap a season-high five-game losing streak. Carlos Gomez added a two-run double to back Wily Peralta (WIH'-lee peh-RAHL'-tah), who allowed two earned runs in six innings.

Zach McAllister combined with two relievers on a six-hitter as Cleveland downed Oakland 1-0. The Indians scored the lone run on a sacrifice fly by Yan Gomes (yahn gohmz) after infielders Brandon Moss and Eric Sogard made errors on the same play in the fifth inning.

Houston's six-game skid is over after Chris Carter's three-run homer put the Astros ahead 6-3 in the third inning of a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) also homered for the Astros, who took advantage of three errors by catcher Hank Conger to score five unearned runs.

Scott Diamond surrendered three hits in seven scoreless innings to pitch Minnesota past Boston 6-1. Ryan Doumit (DOH'-miht) doubled and scored the game's first run in the fifth inning before smacking a solo homer in the seventh.

Matt Wieters (WEE'-turz) capped his three-RBI performance by lifting a double that drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning of Baltimore's 4-3 victory over Kansas City. Wieters also hit a two-run double while the Orioles were building a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Toronto earned a 6-4 victory after Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was hit in the head by Desmond Jennings' line drive in the second inning. Happ was taken off the field on a stretcher and sent to a hospital for tests a few hours before Maicer Izturis (MY'-sur ihz-TOOR'-his) belted a solo homer to break a 4-4 tie in the ninth.

Travis Wood outpitched Lance Lynn and Nate Schierholtz (SHEER'-hohltz) socked a two-run homer as the Cubs edged St. Louis 2-1 to end the Cardinals' six-game winning streak. Wood allowed five hits and pitched into the seventh to help the Cubs prevent Lynn from becoming the National League's first six-game winner.

Detroit was rained out at Washington, forcing the two teams to play a makeup game Thursday afternoon.

UNDATED (AP) — The Boston Red Sox are having trouble keeping their closers on the active roster.

Joel Hanrahan has landed on the disabled list for the second time this season after straining his right forearm during last night's win against Minnesota. He was on the DL from April 14-29 with a strained right hamstring.

Andrew Bailey replaced Hanrahan as closer but went on the disabled list before Monday's game with a strained right biceps.

The Bosox filled Hanrahan's roster spot by recalling Triple-A pitcher Allen Webster, who is scheduled to start Wednesday versus the Twins.

In other baseball news:

— The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed struggling right-handed pitcher James McDonald on the 15-day disabled list with stiffness in his right shoulder and recalled infielder Josh Harrison from Triple-A Indianapolis.

— St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte (maht) has undergone season-ending Tommy John surgery. The Cards activated first baseman Matt Adams off the DL to take Motte's roster spot. Edward Mujica (moo-HEE'-kah) has taken over Motte's role as closer, converting all eight of his save chances so far.

— Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick is expected to be sidelined for a few days with a sore right wrist.

— Rockies first baseman Todd Helton has been sentenced to a year of probation and 24 hours of community service after pleading guilty to driving while ability-impaired.
